The client should be given a start date and, at the point at which you consider them to have disengaged from the service (time period be determined locally by projects), they should be given an end date (MNEND on the data spec) and the appropriate reason or ‘destination’ after support ended (code no. 3 “client disengaged from project” on the DEST data label of the data spec). If they re-engage with the project at a later date they should be given the same unique ID (SUID/NINO/NHS on data spec) and we will be able to track the fact that they have disengaged and re-engaged any number of times. It might be interesting to do some of the qualitative in-depth interviews with such clients to gain a better understanding of what is driving this.
